Business Spotlight: Royal Ivory Collection

April 24, 2018

This Week’s featured business is:

Royal Ivory Collection

Royal Ivory Collection is owned by Arielle Colbourne. She grew up in Antigua. Her hobbies include traveling which she finds fulfilling.

Royal Ivory Collection is an All Natural Skin, Bath, and Body Care Company started in 2017, it’s an eCommerce store and ships worldwide… Royal Ivory specializes in skin, body, and bath products featuring Raw, Unrefined Ivory Shea butter imported from Ghana along with organic and responsibly sourced carrier and essential oils.

I interviewed Arielle and asked her a few questions.

What inspired you to start this business?

A host of reasons are behind my decision to venture out and start a business. I moved to the US to pursue and continue my college/culinary career. After soul searching, I decided to major in Business Management and Marketing in college, this was my fallback plan per se. My first reason for creating Royal Ivory was that I felt the need to utilize my business degree and explore entrepreneurship. Secondly, as fulfilling as my current career is, being a Chef at one of the busiest restaurants in Manhattan creates its own caliber of stress. I simply needed an outlet from this and Royal Ivory provides that. It was also a much-needed source of income given the student loans acquired by the degree I wasn’t utilizing to its fullest potential. I also loved the idea of owning a business, just having something that was mine was fulfilling within itself.

What do you think makes your business unique?

Royal Ivory is special because I believe in providing quality and quantity. There’s no need to fall short in either respect. Quality is achieved by sourcing authentic raw materials in their purest and most unrefined form. Quantity isn’t cheated because responsibly sourced ingredients produce superior products created to supersede similar diluted products.

To what do you attribute your success?

My determination stems from my appreciation of the labor invested in my future by all the Maternal figures in my life.

Any advice to new or potential entrepreneurs?

  1. Set goals and smash them!
  2. Work and life balance are necessary. Take care of yourself, it’s the only way you can take advantage of your fullest potential and your business will flourish as a result.
  3. Do the research and find your target market P.s this does not equate to family and friends, they will come around once business picks up
  4. Charge what the worth for your products or services. Set prices and stick to them.
  5. Take a minute to breathe if needed but never give up.
